[TEXT adVENTURE]

Post by Golden-Ratio » Sun Feb 14, 2021 7:14 pm

Text Adventures, while not as popular as comics and influential manga, are a great and hardy source of entertainment. However, the medium has appeared to run dry to the bone... until now.
TaV is a Text Adventure about a young adult trapped within their home during a blizzard.
It is a story about breaking a curse.

- - - - - - - - - - -

You awaken from your stupor, realizing you must have started daydreaming again.

It isn't unusual for it to happen this often anymore, especially with all of the new ideas you keep thinking of for the future of your company. In fact, your parents have started encouraging your outrageous bouts of imagination, in hope of getting you down to your basement as often as possible. Which is where you are now.

Today is a Saturday, but that doesn't matter very much due to you not attending school, having skipped too many grades when you did. At a very young age, it wasn't hard to see the immense intellect you had, despite it materializing in strange manners. After you were the ripe age of ten, your parents took you out of school and allowed you to invent and enhance, getting their small tech company off the ground and into the sky. Now, you have mass amounts of wealth, both in physical and metaphorical terms.

As mentioned earlier, today is Saturday, and it is very cold outside. You couldn't sleep, so you got ready for the day, got dressed, and headed down to your basement workshop, which is incredibly large. You made sure not to wake your parents of course, as you would like to let them sleep after the stress of Friday night.

But that leaves you with two important questions: Are you a boy, or a girl? And what was your name again?

You know for sure that you are definitely a GIRL. Your name, however... Well, why not go with the best of both worlds?

Your name is RICKY HOOPER, and as previously mentioned, you are a teenage prodigy. You are currently in your underground laboratory alone, with your parents somewhere else. Various machinery surrounds you, many of which you built yourself for fun.

The day is long, but your energy is boundless thanks to a full seven hours of rest.

What do you do?

> Practice Law

...
Law?

You blink and look directly at the camera. You don't really have any books about law. You suppose they could mean machine law, as in A.I.? You have a sort-of A.I. in your ARMORY, but that would still be very confusing.

You jump into the air, and fall back onto the ground feet-first, practicing the laws of physics.

> Fire up your most dangerous tool: The Thermostat

You walk past your biggest MODEL TRAIN set, and hop over the small control booth, and find the thermostat. You turn it up to 69 degrees. You have a knack for enjoying a slight chill every now and again, and the basement is surprisingly good at insulating heat during these snowstorms.

> Examine equipment

Yeah, that might be a good idea.

You step back and observe your basement workshop.
Under the soft LED lights from above, two tables are filled with messed-about metal and wires, all either remains of machines you've already created, or foundations for new ones. A large fanciful silver cabinet holds two solid steel shelves with every tool imaginable for a young genius as yourself.

In the corner is a failure of your work, which you've decided to call the ALCHEMIST. It jarringly, instead of creating suits and tools, takes two items and combines in an extremely odd fashion. You've barely used it since you created it, ashamed of your failure. Still, your parents said that it could be useful sometime in your future, so you kept it.

Taking up much of the half of the room you are facing is your best creation yet: the ARMORY. With what looks like a very grand metal mat with an average toolbox connected to it, when activated, it unleashes the unnamed A.I. with it's one objective: get you dressed in metal. Not in an ominous way, of course. This machine creates a hand-tailored suit of armor akin to your favorite comic-book superhero, IRON MAN.

Finally, the other half of the room is a bit darker, with several tracks set up that wind around the floor. That's where you keep your many TRAINs, all of which are either models or very intricate toys. You've had a thing for them ever since you started building and tinkering, and someday, you hope to engineer and conduct one yourself.

> Arm latest equipment

You don't think 'arm' is the correct word. Instead, you stand in the center of the ARMORY, and activate using a voice control.

The box unfolds and several mechanical arms come out, measuring you and taking data. Of course, you've already given it your preferences, but it's always good to see if any bugs arise.
Having gotten your set idea and body outline complete, a small screen appears before you, displaying what the desired suit would look like. You like it, but you hit the 'cancel' button anyway. You have no need to get technical this early in your day.
