Homestuck acts more like a visual novel, or a game.

It's an interactive webcomic. It has panels. It was updated frequently. It had flashes but that doesn't make it different from what it is . webcomic

Because that's the easiest thing to call it. If you want to recommend Homestuck to a friend, you'd probably refer to it as a comic, rather than a bizarre multi media roller coaster, because you don't want to intimidate somebody who might enjoy it. Another reason is that prior MS Paint Adventures were pretty much just comics that sometimes had animated panels sprinkled in.

Too long didn't give a shit version: it's just the easiest thing to call it

I guess that’s because it’s what it’s closest to.

I just call it that because its on the internet and it’s mostly comic-like. But I see where you’re coming from.

Homestuck isn't a webcomic
Or a game
Or a visual novel
Or a web-animation
Or anything like that

Homestuck is a YouTube Poop

I most often refer to it as a 'story'. It has all the qualifications of an epic.

Edit: just looked up what makes an epic and I got a bunch of results:
Elements that typically distinguish epics include superhuman deeds, fabulous adventures, highly stylized language, and a blending of lyrical and dramatic traditions.
Six Elements Of The Epic:
Plot centers around a Hero of Unbelievable Stature. ...
Involves deeds of superhuman strength and valor. ...
Vast Setting. ...
Involves supernatural and-or otherworldly forces. ...
Sustained elevation of style. ...
Poet remains objective and omniscient.
There are seven main traits of epic heroes; they are of noble birth or elevated status. They have superhuman capabilities, are a vast traveler, an unmatched warrior, a cultural legend, demonstrate humility, and finally, battle superhuman foes.
4 characteristics of an Modern Epic Hero
High Morality/ integrity.
Makes great sacrifice.
Values lives of others.
Genuine.
Literally clicked on nothing but those and it's just all checkmarks all down the list. Like yep that's our buddy John all right

i typically just refer to it as an mspa, or a "web thing" when talking to people outside of the fandom. i'd guess people usually refer to it as a comic because that's the closest thing it's comparable to :p

Well for one it's on the web, and for two its primarily structured as a comic. also there isn't any better word to describe it!
