homestuck cosplay makes me sad
i’ve been in a long long long and quite unfortunate hunt for some cosplay buddies at least in the same state as me, and it’s been very difficult. there’s cons coming up all around the broad area and i get really bummed when i’m the only homestuck wandering around!! plus, shenanigansare always p fun yknow!!!! i usually cosplay karkat or aradia, red red red red planning on a dave, so any one cosplay would really compliment mine well. hell, it doesn’t even have to. like i stated it would be nice to just have a homestuck to hang around!!! its just super lame methinks. why must i be southern. ohhhh woe is me. idk if anyone holds the same sympathy, but i rlly wish i could’ve experienced the horrors of homestuck cosplay boom!!! ughhhh
has vixen been found yet? NOPE!

Re: homestuck cosplay makes me sad
It’s sad, homestucks are a rarity at cons anywhere nowadays. Keep in mind, I’ve only been to one con ever, so take my words with a grain of salt. The con I went to, I went in a cosplay of Sans Undertale, mostly because I was a Sans fangirl back then, and I only saw one person who looked like a Homestuck. They had a pretty good Tavros cosplay, with robotic looking legs and all. Unfortunately, no one could hear me due to the silicone mask I had on, so the guy cosplaying Tavros remained a mystery to me. Now, today, I can safely say that I am never going to a con as Sans ever again. I will be perfectly fine being myself. I’m also way too tall now. You can’t cosplay a short bitch while being tall. Luckily, I have easily dyable hair, so if I wanted to go as any of the strilondes, I could totally dye my hair white…
Tl;Dr, Homestucks are rare, and I rambled about the one time I went to a con as Sans and saw a Tavros.

I used to be an avid homestuck cosplayer in my teenage years and not only does the absence of other HS cosplayers make me sad, the cosplay itself made me sad as well.
I used to wake up at 5 am to paint myself grey... And it would take the better part of the evening to scrub it all off again... And clean the bathroom after cons...

Yeah it is really sad. I miss when you'd find like packs of homestucks running around cons, multiples of each character, or even just people randomly cosplaying on the streets. Now the cosplayers have moved on to different fandoms...
Homestuck was great for beginner cosplayers/kids because of how simple a lot of the outfits were. Especially for the kids, all you need really is a white t shirt, fabric paint, a simple accessory (Rose's headband or John's glasses) and you were set.

it's coming back into style as vintage.
but the scene online is dismal. where the hell is everyone posting? is it all seriously tiktok? i think i have seen a grand total of one cosplay tutorial cross my dash this year and back in the day they would be a daily feature of the fannish digest. i saw like one roxy post last week
cosplay in general seems way down at my local con (sakuracon). i remember non-cosplayers being almost in the minority when i started going, but street clothes absolutely dominated this year. i can't help but feel that's related to no longer circulating tutorials as a matter of habit but .... kinda relegating "build content" to dedicated youtubers with full shop setups?

I managed to go to convention that had a homestuck panel! I went there as Jane, it was pretty fun! I don't think homestuck cosplay is fully dead yet! :D
