The art is really pretty. I dislike literally everything else about it, like the long-winded and unnecessary narration or the whole ass negative number of fucks I give about Dirk and Jake, but god DAMN that is some really well-made art and the color theory is off the charts.

seriously for the money being poured into this by patreon and the large amount of people, there really isn't much here

that much for a whole month makes me think the art and writing teams really arent actually doing much but i'll trust yall and hope this is just a scheme to drop more content on the same day like in 3 upd8s

You definitely have a good point. If this were the work of just one person I would understand the slow update schedule and slow pacing, but this is a team of artists all working together and apparently not getting any money from their partnership with ViZ Media so I'm very suspicious.

I mean it was good stuff, I can't believe we're actually going to get to see candy Earth C. But this was not worth waiting a whole month for.

Also I'm upset because I was really looking forward to seeing the new race and instead it's just more of the epilogues.

At least Jane and Jake look older. Dirk looks the same age every time we've seen him, from homestuck 1 to 2.

So first off, I phenomenally enjoy this. But secondly, there's a lot of little details in the dream sequence that interest me. Brain Ghost Dirk doesn't seem to care for Ultimate Dirk, and it seems like the creature hunting Jake is one of the monsters from Hiveswap, somehow.

At least Jane and Jake look older. Dirk looks the same age every time we've seen him, from homestuck 1 to 2.

I can't speak on the ultimate Dirk from the last update (because frankly yes he should look older), but I think the reason this Dirk looks younger is because it's Brain Ghost Dirk. It's just Jake's Hope powers creating an idealized version of him, so it makes sense that he wouldn't look older.

it's an odd ol' turn! i was perfectly content with HS^2 just being a Meat continuation (A Hive 8n't a Home is all the Candy continuation i need >:D) but now there's definitely gonna be some timeline-mixing! jake is groan but the moustache does save the day a lil. (and how i have missed brain ghost dirk...) wherever this goes should prove to be interesting!

Jane doesn't look super different either. I think it's also in part due to the minimalist cartoony style and the fact that it's not like Dirk's grown a mustache or something. But there are definitely other arguable ways to show aging.

desu I dont have much issue with this only being like, 24 pages.
its about as many pages as if they took a 5 day break then started updating a page a day, which even though we're waiting a month for updates isnt that big of a pacing issue for me.

as for speculation about the story, it seems to me that Ulti!dirk is speaking through brain ghost dirk to get jake out of the black hole, what with his shades being meat dirk's shades' color and him talking about bringing jake back into active duty. I think he's assuming that since jake's hope powers were effective against a lord they'll be similarly effective against a muse, and he wants that kinda power on his side now that alt callie is free from the black hole and chasing him.
plus its kinda interesting that BGD is only appearing now after years of being inactive in candy, coincidentally right after alt callie left.
