Re: dirk appreciation thread
I used to think that Dirk was the least interesting character in homestuck, but after the epilogues he entered my brain and has yet to leave! I love the Fallen Hero trope and I just love his long ass philosophical and expository rants and how he's just up his own ass all of the time.
I have a weakness for shitty smart boys and I admit to it.
Welcome back to 2007

In the line
Got your chin held high and you feel just fine
Because you do
What you're told
But inside your heart it is black and it's hollow and it's cold

Re: dirk appreciation thread
I loved his arc in the comic- about how a socially inept fugitive of his own mind has to work and overcome every single 'splinter' and version of himself, just so that he can accept who he is, and disregard what he's 'fated' to be. Every individual personality set aside just so Dirk could be his own.
And then the epilogues and by extension HS^2 ruin literally every part of that, because after all his time cementing himself as just being dirk and not being any of the other versions of himself, he apparently suddenly decided all the other dirks and versions were fine and accepted literally every awful Dirk into his own essence to become an 'ultimate self' and literally make himself the bad guy.
Don't get me wrong. The direction they're going with a self-imposed villain character simply playing the villain to extend his own existence with power over the narrative itself is really interesting- but making Dirk that villain literally trashed his entire character. This is not the Dirk we met in Homestuck. It never will be.

Re: dirk appreciation thread
i LOOOOOOVE ultdirk yall his psyche is interesting as SHIT
he loves his friends SO MUCH and its why he won't let them have free will, because they'll use it to hurt themselves and and others and ultimately drag the timeline into a pit of congealed sugary despair. he provides the exterior motivation the characters need to keep developing in a narratively satisfying way. hes become the anime villain of all of our dreams
everything about him is <3 <3 <3 im so glad he exists

Re: dirk appreciation thread
Dirk is not a transphobe but having a hard time initially understanding how someone could be non-binary makes a lot of sense for his character as one who tends to put concepts in absolutes. Especially if we're to assume his ultimate self contains Caliborn in some way, Cherubs seem especially intent on putting literally everything into a binary.
Anyway, Dirk is probably my favorite character. My favorite qualities of Rose and Dave packaged together in one shitty orange boy.

He'd look cooler if he went back to the black shades
Unironically fucking love those style of shades because Dirk redeemed them after (hot-take) Gurren Lagann

Dirk is literally Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts. He's associated with Heart/souls, has lots of copies of himself, is a mastermind who struggles with his dark impulses, and becomes the main villain and the driver of plot in the Epilogues and HS^2.
