Skills arguing with each other.
The atmosphere of Martinaise mirroring detective's mental state of a barely salvageable wreck.
Art style, especially

The fact that failing a red (non-repeatable) check is sometimes not capital H-Horrible. Heck, it might as well be preferable to succeeding.

Disco Elysium is unironically the best game I've played in the last...five years? At least in terms of impact and writing desu. The art style, the skills and their dialogue, some of the absolutely batty things the detective can do if you fail or succeed the right checks. God.
